As you know many people make protein smoothies very easily. They take the protein powder and mix it with water or milk or almond/soy milk in a shaker bottle. This is good for post workout if you are in a rush. If you ever have time, here is a way to make a very healthy nutrient packed protein smoothie.
- Protein Powder: 1-2 scoops (unflavoured is better, I use hemp powder if I am making a fruit protein smoothie)
- Frozen Fruit (Mixed berries and Banana): Handful
- Almond Butter: 1 tbsp
- Ground Flax: 2 tsp
- Fruit Jam: 1 tbsp
- 99% Aloe: 2 tsbp
- Milk or Almond/Soy Milk: Depends on how thick you want the smoothie.
I will give a some reasoning why I use some of the ingredients I do.
Frozen Fruit because its like ice but your adding some nutrients by using fruit instead of just ice. The almond butter adds more protein into the smoothie through a nut source. Flax seeds are supposed to be high in Omega 3 and also Fibre. I do not like to add sugar to smoothies so I end up adding fruit jam. If you buy the healthier ones, sometimes the fruit content in them is higher. As for Aloe, it is supposed to be good for your skin and stomach (digestive system) and does not taste good if you just mix it with water and drink it. When it is added to the smoothie you do not taste it and you get the benefits.
Some people when they workout at the gym, like to add flavour to their water. I personally do not like the taste of plain water. If I need to drink water, I need to add something to it. I add liquid chlorophyll to the water. Chlorophyll is actually good at alkalizing the water so that it is not acidic. It also works as an internal deodorant and helps your body smell less when you sweat. I use the mint flavoured chlorophyll and it works well for me.
